Many of us seem to struggle with sticking to a weight loss plan. It may seem easy to begin with, when our goals don’t seem so far away. The first step in your weight loss effort should be to set goals for what you want to achieve. Keeping a realistic mindset when thinking about how you are going to lose weight is key to being successful. Are you simply overweight and need to get into better shape? Are you interested in becoming generally healthier, or is slimming down a medical necessity? These are the types of things that you need to really think about.


Keep track of your progress on a weekly basis. You should only weigh yourself once a week and keep track of your weigh-ins. Use the journal to list the foods you eat everyday in a food log. Knowing all the details are right there in black and white serves to keep you on track.


If you are blinded by hunger, then you won’t be as conscientious about your food choices. Make sure to have healthy foods available to you when you are away from home to avoid this type of problem. Bring lunch from home. Making your own lunch keeps you in charge of your caloric intake and will stop the temptation to eat out in its tracks. Because it normally costs less to bring your lunch than to dine out, you will most likely find that you are saving money while whittling your waistline.


In order to lose weight you should follow a healthy diet along with exercise. Find an enjoyable workout, and be sure to participate in it several times each week. If you don’t enjoy doing certain exercises, find some fun activity to do as a replacement. Go for a walk with your friends when you hang out. Few people follow this advice. Remove all high-fat, highly caloric snack items from your home. When unhealthy food items are not present, you will be unable to binge on them. Instead, make sure you have a lot of healthy options in your pantry, such as fruit, vegetables and nuts. Try to remove negative options from your life: you can’t eat what you don’t have.
