It can appear that losing weight will take forever. While many diets begin with the best of intentions, bad habits have a way of taking over as time goes by. How do some people escape that momentum loss? Some people lose weight and keep it off. If you are like most people, you have to ask, how do they achieve this?
Your first major step towards weight loss is to know what success looks like. Specifically, what are your goals, and how will you know you have reached them? In your mind’s eye, what do you want your future to look like because you have lost weight? Are you looking to be a smaller size in clothing? Are you shooting for a specific weight? Or, like most people, do you simply want to make your body fitter and healthier?
Monitor and record your weight loss at weekly intervals. It’s a good idea to keep track of this in a weekly diary so you can compare from week to week. In the same book, track your diet. Keep a food diary or log to keep yourself responsible for what you eat. Knowing that you have to write down bad choices will make you less likely to actually choose them.
Allowing yourself to become overly hungry is a huge mistake. It is hard to control what you are eating when you are really hungry. Decide what you will eat ahead of time, and keep sensible snack foods on hand at all times. Always try to take a packed lunch, if you can. You can save your hard-earned cash while making good nutritional choices.
A healthy diet alone is not enough to drive real weight loss. When you add an exercise regime to your weight loss plan, it will really help you to make progress. Make sure you are including things that you would normally want to do in your exercise routine. Find activities you enjoy that will also give you a good workout. Seek out classes that will keep your interest and invite friends to join you in these activities.
When you have a kitchen full of tasty but unhealthy foods, it’s hard to stop yourself from eating them. This works the other way around, though: keeping your home filled with healthy foods means you will go for them first. Stock your pantry with lots of healthy alternatives to junk food, such as veggies, fruits, and healthy, low-fat snack foods. Stop buying junk food! This is the simplest way to make sure you won’t eat it, which is especially helpful when you can’t resist it. Having healthy food within easy reach while you have to go out to get junk food makes you far more likely to choose the healthy food.
It is important to have supportive people around, maybe even a weight loss partner if possible when trying to lose weight. Allowing yourself to receive support from others can give you the extra strength you need when you feel like quitting. Communicate your needs whenever your motivation starts to wane, and you will be better equipped to achieve your objectives.
