Many of us seem to struggle with sticking to a weight loss plan. In the beginning, it is easy to stick to your goals. However, eventually motivation usually dwindles, and you start to give up. This is not something that occurs with everyone. There are some people who are successful at achieving their goals and maintaining their weight loss permanently. What is their secret to this success?
It is imperative that you set a goal for yourself when you want to lose weight. Are you trying to loose weight to fit into some old clothes that you used to wear, or are your goals more ambitious? Are you really mostly concerned about improving your overall health? Goals provide focus and allow you to gauge your progress along the way.
Record your progress at least once a week. It’s a good idea to keep a journal and to weigh yourself at least once per week. Your journal should include a food diary so that you can keep track of your daily eating habits. By physically recording what you eat, you will be more self aware and perhaps more discerning in your dietary choices.
You want to know what you are going to eat before you become hungry. When you are hungry, you lose sight of your goals. This is why you must have your plans set up in advance, and always keep some healthy snack items handy. Rather than choosing restaurants, make the effort to pack your own lunch. Home cooking not only benefits your checkbook, but it also allows you to eat things you want that are actually healthy for you.
The key to losing weight has never been a secret. It may be easier said than done, but all you need to do is eat healthy and begin a fitness plan and the pounds will start coming off. It is very important to exercise at least three days out of the week. If you think this will be difficult to stick to, then choose activities you will have fun doing. Meeting up with friends for a walk is a great way to socialize and get in some exercise. Hiking is another great way to lose weight. Sign up for a class and learn a new high-energy style if you enjoy dancing.
Most everyone has heard about this method, yet people rarely do it. Get rid of all the unhealthy snacks and junk food in the kitchen! If they are out of sight, they are out of mind. Instead, make sure you have a lot of healthy options in your pantry, such as fruit, vegetables and nuts. If you keep the bad choices out of sight, you will be more likely to make good choices.
Share your weight loss goals with friends and family. Loved ones are the best inspiration you can ask for. If you feel discouraged, talk to one of your friends. A good old pat on the back is a superb motivator.
