First, you need to develop specific goals for losing weight. Is it your desire to wear clothes in a specific size? Do you have a weight in mind which you would like to achieve? Do you want to feel better about yourself, be a healthier person and have more strength overall?


There are many little things you can do each and every day that will help support your success in your weight loss program. Tally up how much weight you lose per week when you first start. Keeping a food journal not only helps to keep track of all of our meals and snacks, it also encourages us to make good food choices.


Don’t let yourself become extremely hungry. This will lead to very poor choices in foods. To avert disaster, plan your meals ahead of time. A menu is a wonderful idea, because it lets everyone in the family know what they are having to eat each night. Eat your own home-cooked meals instead of going out; it will save you money and help prevent you from straying from your diet.


A healthy diet alone is not enough to drive real weight loss. Your weight loss will be greatly enhanced when you combine healthy eating with exercise. Make sure you are including things that you would normally want to do in your exercise routine. Seek out activities that will be fun for you. Sign up for classes at the local gym; it is a great way to meet new people.


Take all the junk food out of your kitchen. Keep healthy foods around, such as fruits and vegetables, and you will be more likely to reach for them instead of the unhealthy foods. If you remove all the junk food from your home, you will not have to worry about grabbing something unhealthy when you want to snack on something.


You cannot lose weight because your doctor says you should or your husband wants you to do it. You have to decide you are going to lose weight because you want to do it for yourself. You will find it much simpler and much less lonely if you get support from those you love. Sometimes you will feel discouraged and need someone to share your feelings and a healthy snack with. Call upon your friends and family when you have a lack of motivation.
